Yvette Ford wins the UBA Northeast Vixen’s Title

The Boardwalk Empire legacy continues. First it was Kandace Little, then Terri Bollinger. Now Yvette Ford can add her name to the vaunted list of women who have won the UBA Northeast Vixen’s Title, defeating former champion Sagirah Wheeler (APEX Predators) 4-2.

The atmosphere was different to begin with, as Ford jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a 243-207 win. The atmosphere was also different for Wheeler, who despite being one of the most technically proficient bowlers in the UBA appeared sluggish and couldn’t continuously get it going.

Despite winning games 2 (235-224) and 3 (248-196), Wheeler was missing single pin spares and opening when it didn’t cost her. It did cost her on Game 4, as two quick opens gave Ford a lead she wouldn’t relinquish, taking it 234-208 and tying the match up at 2 games apiece.

During Game 5, the lanes broke down, which turned the match from a carry contest to a grinder. Advantage: veteran, as Ford, while not churning out pretty strikes, also made less mistakes. Wheeler had a chance to take the game but left the 4/6/9/10 late, so Ford won 194-177 to go up 3-2. Game 6 was more of the same for Wheeler, as she opened up twice early and dug too big of a hole to get out of, losing the game 216-205 and the match 4-2.

Thus ends the reign of one DMV powerhouse (as Wheeler drops to 6-1) and begins the reign of a new DMV powerhouse, as Ford increases her record to 7-1 (the lone loss being to Wheeler the first time they met). Will we see a Round 3 in 2021? It would be fun to find out.
